He breathed His last…

April 6, 2007

yesterday (Good Friday) I was reminded again of the cross of Christ so I decided to lead my prayer room team through Bible passages giving account of the events leading up to the crucifixion of Christ.

We re-read the account of Jesus’ prayer in the garden of Gethesamne in Matthew and the trial and mockings of Jesus, and the account of the crucifixion in Mark 15.

We concluded with this…

And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom… {Mark 15:37,38}

I was gripped with this last verse realizing this…the fullness of the power of God contained in this man (Jesus) cried out and breathed His last breath FOR US…and for all mankind. There is so much to be said and unpacked in this reality of who this man (Jesus) was and what He did for us and the Father.

The writer of Hebrews points out in Hebrews 10 that His body was the very veil that was torn for us…that we may be redeemed from sin, reconciled to the Father, and granted citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven which is coming to earth!  Let’s remember Christ this weekend as we celebrate His death and resurrection.
